Wood Rounds Art
Good Day, Friends! Here we are again! I just wanted to give you all an update on life in The Loft! Things have been busy busy lately! Lots of fun new projects, (including this website), gearing up for a wonderful Spring in Fairbanks and planning road trips and family fun! In the midst of that, I recently started a commissioned portrait. I have also discovered the miniature art form on wood rounds, or wood chips.
I have tried this in the past with painting and drawing on wood rounds by cutting my own instead of purchasing from the local craft store. But the blade I was using was creating much too rough of a surface that the wood was not a usable paint surface. This time, however, I am using a finer tooth blade to make the cuts and it is working wonderfully! The surface is not glass-like smooth, which is actually a good thing for me as painting on glass can be difficult. I have primarily used canvas which has some grain or “tooth” to the surface and holds on to the paint a little better than that of glass.
I have always been a doodler and I seem to be able to concentrate better when doodling. So the wood round art is a perfect little doodle pad, I’ve taken some inspiration from Pinterest and all the wonderful artist on there. I am so drawn to nature and simple landscapes of spruce and birch trees, lakes and riverbanks. And all the little critters that make their home in the grass, water and logs in the wild! I also like contrasting colors and so I’ve kind of gone that direction with my drawings on the wood rounds.
I’ve got more art ideas floating around in my head for this paint surface and I can’t wait to put them all out on the work bench/table and then share with all of you! I’ll keep you updated on the status and share lots of pictures of new little wood rounds (ornaments, anyone?) If you see one you like, I’ll be posting them in my little shop here on the website!
